Listening to the Voice of Fibromyalgia How Inner Child Work Transformed My Pain Journey

Fibromyalgia is often described as a mysterious condition, one that leaves many feeling trapped in a body that hurts without a clear reason. Prior to being diagnosed around a decade ago, I thought the pain I felt was just delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) from exercising. I was an active, busy mum of two young children, and juggling work and everything in between. The pain in my body was relentless, and it came with chronic fatigue that drained my energy, disrupted sleep, brain fog and low mood. The traditional medical advice offered me two options: take pain medication or just live with it. Neither felt like a real solution.

Understanding the Pain Beyond the Physical

At first, I tried to ignore the pain. I took supplements, tried numerous natural and varied treatments and still I had to keep on pushing through the pain and fatigue. Nothing worked long term. The pain was deep, it's really hard to describe, it's a constant ache with volume turned up to extra LOUD; it felt like my body was frozen, unable to move easily and effortlessly, especially when I tried to get out of bed in the morning. I would hobble out of bed like I was 99 years old! I felt trapped in a cycle of discomfort and exhaustion.

My journey took a turn many years later, when I had a session with a fellow Root Cause Practitioner who helped me explore the deeper meaning behind my pain. This is how inner child work and compassionate healing conversations helped me release the pain and reclaim my life.

During the session with my fellow RCP Practitioner, I was guided to explore the sensations and emotions tied to my pain. We uncovered that the feeling traced back to my childhood—a time when fear kept me awake at night. This was not just a memory but a part of me living on my nervous system, holding onto pain and fear.

How Inner Child Work Helped Me Heal

The session involved deep inner child work, a process that connected me with a younger version of myself who was stuck. This part of me was the voice behind the fibromyalgia pain. Through gentle guidance and compassionate healing conversation, I was able to acknowledge this younger self, listen to her story, and offer her the comfort that she needed.

This connection allowed me to release the fear and pain that had been frozen inside my body for years. My body responded by letting go of the pain that had felt permanent. Since that moment, I have been pain-free (the Fibromyalgia pain), it's as if the volume has been turned FULLY DOWN. The voice of fibromyalgia has disappeared, and it hasn’t returned to my daily life. Occasionally it may creep back in during stressful times or when I have over-done it but I know how to respond to it now.

What I Learned from My Healing Journey

  • Pain is a messenger: It carries a message that needs attention.

  • Listening is key: Instead of fighting the pain, I learned to listen to what it was trying to tell me.

  • Healing is holistic: Exploring emotional, somatic and energetic work made a difference.

  • Inner child work can unlock deep healing: Connecting with the younger self helped me release long-held fears.

  • Support matters: Working with someone who can create a safe and spacious container to explore my symptoms provided the perfect space I needed to uncover the message.

Practical Steps for Those Struggling with Fibromyalgia or Chronic Pain

If you are living with fibromyalgia or chronic pain, here are some steps that might help you start your own healing journey:

  • Seek a Practitoner who is able to guide you to look beyond the symptom.

  • Explore inner child work to get to the root of your pain.

  • Engage in Compassionate Healing Conversations to express your feelings and fears without judgment.

  • Practice gentle self-care and extend compassion to yourself. Pain is not normal, its a signal.

Moving Forward with Hope and Compassion

Fibromyalgia does not have to define your life. The pain you feel is not just a physical symptom but a voice calling for healing on a deeper level. My experience shows that by listening to that voice and addressing the emotional roots, it is possible to find relief and reclaim your vitality.

If you are curious about healing work or feel stuck in your pain journey, remember that you are not alone. Compassionate support and holistic approaches can open new doors to wellness. The voice of fibromyalgia may be loud now, but with patience and care, it can grow quieter and potentially fade away.

Your body and your inner child are waiting to be heard. Take the first step to listen.
